Assessing the Preservation Needs in Auckland Museum’s Documentary Heritage Collections
Erin is the Paper & Photography Conservator at Auckland War Memorial Museum. Before joining the Museum Erin was working as a Contract Conservator for the Provincial Archives of Alberta (Canada). She has previously held positions at West Yorkshire Archives (UK), The National Archives (UK) and Tate (UK). She received her MA in Conservation of Works of Art on Paper from Northumbria University, UK and a BFA in Art and Design from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.
In April 2019 Auckland Museum established the role of Paper & Photography Conservator. The key focus of the role involves assessing and planning future needs for conservation as well as advising and facilitating best conservation practice. This talk will give a brief introduction to the Documentary Heritage collections at the Museum, share some of the preservation challenges encountered and the plans to develop preservation strategies. I will also present a snapshot of results from the recent Preservation Assessment Survey of the Manuscripts and Archives collection and look at some of the challenges ahead.
