About/bio
Anna studied bookbinding at the London College of Printing under tutor Arthur Johnson 1980-81, followed by two years at the Camberwell School of Art and Crafts, as it was then. There she specialised in the conservation of Library and Archival Materials, and subsequently worked for many years in institutions and private practice as a Conservator Bookbinder. Three wonderful years were spent at Canterbury Cathedral Archives and Library as Conservation Manager. After coming to New Zealand, she has worked at Archives New Zealand for a number of years. She is pleased to offer primarily book but also paper conservation services from her private address in the Wairarapa in the Wellington region.
Qualifications and/or experience
1983-85 Archive conservator, Gloucestershire Record Office

1985-2001 Private practice, Bookbinding and Book Conservation, Paper Conservation. Studios successively at Blackboys, Hastings and Polegate, East Sussex. Clients included private stately homes and National Trust properties all over the southern half of England.

1994 External examiner, Brighton Polytechnic Bookbinding course.

1995-6 Teaching bookbinding evening classes to adults.

2001-4 Conservation Manager, Canterbury Cathedral Archives and Library/Kent Archives Service.

2004-11 Self-employed and career break, voluntary work, including Parish Councillor and Tree Warden.

2013, 2014, 2015 - each was a three-month Contract Conservator position at Archives New Zealand.

2020 Teaching bookbinding to adults (Association of Book Crafts).

2015 - 2025 Conservator at Archives New Zealand.

2025 - present Specialist Conservator, Library and Archive Materials, at Archives New Zealand and National Library New Zealand following restructure.
