NEW ZEALAND CONSERVATORS OF CULTURAL MATERIALs
Come and join us this September at NZCCM 2024 - an excellent opportunity to connect and engage with speakers, diverse professionals across conservation sector and partners. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone in Tauranga Moana!
Tauranga means ‘place of rest or anchorage’ in Māori and while the sparkling harbour and magnificent views make it a great place to relax and recharge, there’s also plenty to keep you busy. Tauranga is the largest city in the Coastal Bay of Plenty and is home to approximately 140,000 people.

ANNOUNCEMENT AND THEME
This year’s theme is: Navigating Conservation Challenges in Aotearoa New Zealand
The NZCCM is hosting its annual conference in Tauranga Moana from September 18th to 20th, 2024. The first two days will feature keynote speakers, papers, and panels with an emphasis on the theme of “Navigating Conservation Challenges in Aotearoa New Zealand.” The theme of this year’s conference acknowledges our location and the interconnectedness of land, water, and people, emphasing the significance of both the environment and the well-being of the community. On the third day, there will be a field trip to sites between Tauranga and Waihi Beach, focusing on coastline changes and impacts to archaeology.
The conference will take place at the Historic Village, a vibrant community hub that includes historic buildings, retail shops, cafes, and theatres. This marks the first time the NZCCM has hosted its conference in Tauranga, providing an ideal opportunity to explore New Zealand’s fifth-largest and fastest-growing city.
