This Zui, the second in our Hazardous Collection Items series will focus on Psychological Hazards in Collections.  It will be held online on Thursday 30th July 7-9pm.

This event is free for NZCCM Members and $10 for Non Members.

We will hear from three amazing speakers bringing their own perspectives to this topic.

  • Jessica Aitken is Curator of Collections at the New Zealand Police Museum Te Whare Taonga o ngā Pirihimana o Aotearoa. Working closely with this collection has shaped her approach to the ethical care of items connected to death, violence, and trauma. She is particularly interested in how we look after ourselves alongside the collections we are responsible for, including the psychological impacts of engaging with challenging material.
  • Scott Reeves is the Registrar at Canterbury Museum, where he leads a great team of registration and collections specialists to document, care for, and keep track of the Museum's diverse collection. Much of his day-to-day work involves making sure records are clear and reliable, supporting logistics, and keeping the systems behind it all running smoothly in practice. Scott is particularly interested in the challenges of working with sensitive material, and how institutions can provide access to it in thoughtful and responsible ways.
  • Sarah Clayton,  is a Textile Conservator, who has extensive experience in preventive conservation and Hazard management.  Sarah has worked at the National Gallery of Australia, for the New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust and for 22 years at the Australian War Memorial.

This event is a partnership with National Services Te Paerangi.

After the speakers have presented there will be an hour for you to ask questions to the panel who will comprise the speakers along with other conservators in this field. The questions and discussions session will not be recorded so that you can ask tricky questions in a safe and non-judgemental setting.

Please feel free to pass this information on to any non NZCCM Members that may may be interested in this Zui.
